Description

In the afternoon we will hit the road that takes to the desert. We will visit the archaeological site of Shisr, interpreted as the mythic city of Ubar, the Atlantis of the Sands. At Shisr we will get off road to reach the big dunes of the Rub al Khali desert. We will stop to see a camel camp where the black camels of the desert are bred. After a most spectacular sunset on top of the highest dunes we will reach our camp where we will enjoy a traditional dinner around the campfire, listening to the many legends of the desert. We will spend the night in a traditional tent under the starry sky. The following morning, we will stop in Wadi Dowka, to see the largest concentration of Boswellia sacra trees, the plant that produces the frankincense resin.

Route

The route goes from the fertile alluvial plain of Salalah to the Empty Quarter, crossing the Dhofar Mountain Range. A most spectacular road that takes from the shore of the Arabian Sea to the fringes of the largest sandy desert on earth.
