Rock Art in Jabal Akhdar

A three days full immersion in the secrets of the Green Mountain. Stroll on the ophiolitic plateau emerged from the Thetys Sea and read the story of the first inhabitants as they drawn it on the rocks.

Description

Our local guide will pick you up from the village of Birkat al Mouz, at the foot of the mountain, and drive you to Anantara al Jabal Akhdar Resort for check in. During your stay we will explore Wadi Almward (wadi of resources), an ancient trail that has led men and animals to the spring and cave below for thousands of years. On the rocks of the path you will see carvings from the 4th millennium BCE featuring people and animals, to carvings of British RAF aircraft, dated 1958, during raids in the Jabal War. We will ascend the imposing Wadi Tanuf and visit the ruins of the old village. We will explore the area around the large boulder of Hasat bin Salt with its mysterious representations, dating back to the 3rd millennium BCE, and the ancient mud-brick village of al Hamra.

Route

The journey starts from the village of Birkat al Mouz, and takes to the Sayq Plateau. A light trekking (2/4 hours) in wadi Almward. Light trekking in Wadi Tanuf and old village; to Al Hamra and back to of Birkat al Mouz.
